Lois Rogers Touart, 91

MILFORD - Lois Rogers Touart, of Milford, passed away quietly on July 31, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 91. Mrs. Touart was born on April 26, 1918, in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of the late Clarence C. and Alice (Lauderdale) Rogers. She graduated from Brighton High School in Rochester and then Sacramento Junior College in California in 1938. Returning to her family home in Fairport, N.Y., she worked as a comparison shopper for Hiram Sibley's Department Store. She married Robert Louis Touart, a packaging engineer, on March 7, 1942, and shortly after took on the full time duties of a homemaker and mother. Lois was a life-long volunteer who actively worked in service organizations wherever she lived. During her many years of residence in Sussex County, she worked as a co-chair of the Hospital Fair for Milford Memorial Hospital, was a member of the Shawnee Home Extension Group, the Diamond State Doll Club and the Friends of the Milford Library. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Milford, serving in the Women's Association, the Session and the Deacons for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Louis Touart in 1995; a son, Steven Eddy Touart in 1977; a sister, Barbara Keefe; and a brother, Howard Rogers. She is survived by four sons, Robert Louis Touart Jr. of Baltimore, Md., John Rogers of College Park, Md., David Alan Touart of Milford, and Paul Baker Touart of Westover, Md.; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Barry Kent Owens of Virginia Beach, Va. and two grandchildren, Braden Touart and Krysti Marie Owens. A graveside service and interment will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Walnut Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 172, Milford, DE 19963 or to the S.P.C.A., Sussex Chapter, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947. Letters of condolence may be emailed at www.delmarvaobits.com/rogers.
