Born on Oct. 9, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret Shell Thomas. On Jan. 28, 1950, she married Royce Clifton Malaby, and the couple made their home in Philadelphia, moving to Cambridge in 1965, where they raised their five children. As her children grew, Mrs. Malaby worked first at Dr. Bowman's medical office, then at Leggett's, and finally at Thorn Valley Jewelers. She was a dedicated Girl Scout Troop Leader and an active member of St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Denny of Queenstown, Md. and Jane Bailey of Greenwood; sons, Thomas Malaby and Robert Malaby, both of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, with another expected in March 2018; and a beloved caretaker and dear friend, Crystal Choplick. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Royce Clifton Malaby; a daughter, Marjorie Ann Haller; a brother, William Thomas; and a grandson, Gregory Haller.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Thursday, Feb. 1 at St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge, Md. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
