Mrs. Stokes was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Kent County, daughter of the late Elwood Peabody and Daisy Estelle Sewell Kendall.
She worked in the defense plants in both Elkton and Chestertown during World War II. She later worked as a floor supervisor with Campbell's Soup Co., when it opened in 1960, and stayed until 1966. In her later years, she spent time as a private in-home caregiver.
She enjoyed family and friends, and enjoyed her evening phone calls with them. She also enjoyed "Word Find" puzzles.

She is survived by a son, Donnie Stokes of Worton; three grandchildren, Jeff Stokes of Phoenix, Scott Stokes of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Tricia Stokes of Towson; and a great-grandson, Chase Stokes.
