Lillian T. Western

Milford - Lillian T. Western died April 25, 2014 with her family at her side. She was born in Etra, New Jersey, the daughter of the late William and Isabel (Lamb) Murphy. She was a graduate of Hightstown, NJ High School and earned her RN Degree from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ in 1937. She moved to Milford in 1947 and was the School Nurse at Lincoln School from 1960-1966 when she became Assistant Director of Nursing at Stockley Center in Millsboro retiring in 1975. She was a member of St John the Apostle Catholic Church, Milford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, August E. Western in 2008; two brothers, Walter Murphy and William Murphy and three sisters, Helene Hoffman, Ruth Murphy and Elizabeth Barclay. Lillian is survived by her sister, Catherine Emma Spencer of Skillman, NJ; four sons and daughters in law, Dr. Karl A and Aileen Western of Washington, DC, Edward D. and Virginia Western of Kingston, TN, Paul W. and Latricia Western of Milford, DE and Michael S. and Patricia Western of New Castle, DE; two daughters and sons in law, Helene A. and John Diskau and Joan W. and Sudler Lofland all of Milford; also seven grandchildren, Ann Bittman (Bob) of Chevy Chase, MD, Mark Western of Bethesda, MD, Joanna Griffin (Justin) of San Augustine, TX, David Western (Suzanne) of Landrum, SC, Aubrey Western of Bellingham, WA, Oliver Western (Abigael) of NYC, Caroline Western of New Castle, DE and five step grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompson Arnold (Carl) of Newark, DE, Michele Vaughn of Wilmington, DE, Kim Friberg (Walter) of Middletown, DE, Keith Davis (Brenda) of Bridgeville, DE and Paula Davis, of Camden, DE . Lillian is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, 13 step-great grandchildren and five step great-great-grandchildren. Lillian has also been blessed to have many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Seabury Avenue and School Place, Milford. Friends may call one hour before the service at the Church. A viewing will also be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, May, 2, 2014 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Interment will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE 19968 following the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford, DE 19963 or the August Western Memorial Education Fund, 431 Kings Highway, Milford, DE 19963.
