Leroy B. Carney Sr., 84

SMYRNA - Leroy B. Carney Sr., of Smyrna, passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Pinnacle Health Center, Smyrna. He was 84. He was born in New Jersey, one of ten children of the late Return and Ola Carney. Mr. Carney lived in the Dover/Cheswold area for most of his life. He had been employed as a truck driver for 31 years with George C. Rothwell Inc, Smyrna, and later with Standard Chlorine, New Castle, retiring in 1987. He loved gardening, hunting, and traveling. He will be remembered as a very dedicated and hardworking man. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annabelle Carney; a son, Leroy Carney Jr. of Camden; two daughters, Angela Carney, of Baltimore, and Victoria Carney of Camden; a brother, Willis Carney of Dover; five sisters, Mary Etta Carter of Dover, Cordelia Rochford of Dover, Betty Seeney of Kenton, Shirley Ann Seeney of Dover, Gloria Attix of Kenton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at noon. Burial will be in Immanuel Union Cemetery, Cheswold. If desired, contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Assoc., 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801. To send a condolence letter, contact www.delmarvaobits.com.
