Leonard Wayne Swallom Sr., 77

CAMDEN - Leonard Wayne Swallom Sr. of Camden died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, in his daughter's home. He was 77.

Mr. Swallom was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Chicago, son of the late Earl and Florence (Breshears) Swallom.

He retired as a senior master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in 1982. He served during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Swallom moved to Delaware from Kentucky in 2003 to be closer to his family, especially his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Burton Swallom; and two great-grandchildren, Haley Garrett and Jonathan Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Snyder) Swallom; a daughter and a best friend and son-in-law, Lorraine and Jonathan Miller of Wyoming; a son and a daughter-in-law, Leonard Jr. and Pamela Swallom of Wintersville, Ga.; five brothers, his twin, Leslie Swallom of Knoxville, Tenn., Stanley Swallom of Roy, Utah, Wilbur Swallom of Malott, Wash., Stephen Swallom of Franklin, Ohio, and David Swallom of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Russell Miller, Shanna Merka, Jonell Garrett, Timothy Miller and Linden Swallom; and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Miller, Ethan Garrett, Jacob Garrett, Justin Miller, Sophia Merka, Jonathan Miller and Kirsten Miller.

A Celebration of Life service will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713; or American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720-1633.
