Lawrence H. Voss

SMYRNA - Lawrence H. Voss passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at his home. Mr. Voss was born the second of identical twins on April 12, 1930, in Smyrna, the son of the late Walter B. and Annie E. Voss. He served his country with honor in the United States Army. Lawrence retired after 40 years of work as a Commercial Crabber and Farmer. Mr. Voss enjoyed hunting and country line dancing. He was a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge, and was known to be a good story teller. Other interests included watching baseball, wrestling and football games. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Voss in 2002; a grandson, Michael Ryan Bentley; five brothers, Burton, Francis, Norman, his twin brother Leonard, and Stanley; two sisters, Elva and Marion; his brothers-in-laws, Charles and Kenneth Straughn; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Bradburn. He is survived by his son, Michael Bentley and his three children, Amanda, Kurt, and Tyler, all of Smyrna; his daughter, Anne E. Richter, her husband David, and their children, Eli and Isaiah, all of Sykeston, N.D.; one sister, Jeannette Killen of Leipsic, Del.; three sister-in-laws, Shirley Voss of Smyrna, Ruth Ann Voss of Blackiston, Del., and Nancy Voss of Fla.; three brother-in-laws, George Straughn and his wife Dotty of Townsend, Del., Arthur Straughn and his wife Barbara of Middletown, Del., and Harvey Straughn, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Townsend; sister-in-law, Wanda Straughn of Clayton, Del.; sister-in-law, Kathleen Baker and her husband Gene of York, Pa.; and many extended family members. He is also survived by his very special friend and companion, Clara Gravatt and her family. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, August 30, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday, August 31, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Funeral services will begin Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19904. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
