Lawrence C. Powers, SSGT (RET) USAF, 83

CAMDEN - Lawrence C. Powers, SSGT (RET) USAF, of Camden, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at home. He was 83. Larry, "Pop," was born in Garwood, N.J., on Oct. 18, 1925. He was the son of the late Lawrence P. and Anna M. Powers. After retiring from the Air Force, he was a maintenance mechanic for various companies. Larry was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He resided with his family in Burlington, N.J., prior to relocating to Delaware. He enjoyed country music, western movies and Louis L'Amour novels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Powers and John Powers; and sisters, Anna Marie (Nancy) Meyer, and Mary Lou Mann. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen "Kay" Powers; sons, Lawrence Jr. (and Judy) of Mt. Laurel, N.J., John (and Gail) of Reseda, Calif., Sean (and Lisa) of Elders Ridge Pa., Frank (and Megan) of Asbury, N.J., and Lee (and Amy) of Franklinville, N.J., in addition to 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Regina Iaione, Katherine Meyer, and Francis Keller; and many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Dover Air Force Base Chapel 2, 1022 Old Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Interment will be 11 a.m. Monday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. delawarehospice.org.
