Laurence 'Larry' Burton Jones, 55
KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Laurence "Larry" Burton Jones, of Kennedyville, died unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in the Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. He was 55. Larry was born on April 6, 1953, in Chestertown, son of the late William Edward Jones and Betty Green Jones of Smyrna. He spent most of his early life in Crumpton and attended Queen Anne's county schools. In 1970, he joined the U.S. Army. He was a devoted husband to his wife of almost 38 years, the former Beverly Ann Hill, whom he married May 23, 1971. They lived in what was then known as West Germany in 1972 while Larry completed his service with the Army. After returning to the Kennedyville area, Larry then started his own business as a builder/contractor, Harmony-Ridge Builders, in which he was actively engaged even at the time of his death. He enjoyed playing softball for many years every summer in various leagues. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. Every summer he enjoyed growing vegetables in his own garden. He enjoyed making furniture as gifts which eventually became a Christmas tradition for him. In addition to his wife and mother, he is also survived by two children, Nicholas K. Jones and Laura M. Jones, both at home; a sister, Patricia Cornelius of Chestertown; and a brother, Bruce of Smyrna, Del. Larry was predeceased by a sister, Kay and a brother, Jimmy. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Kennedyville United Methodist Church, on Augustine Herman Highway in Kennedyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Kennedyville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 32, Kennedyville, MD 21645.
