Laura Rowan (Manlove) Orth, 80

KENTON - Laura Rowan (Manlove) Orth of Kenton died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 80.

Mrs. Orth was born in Cecilton, Md., oldest child of the late Joseph E. and Isabell (Clark) Manlove.

She was raised on the family farm, Swan Harbor, in Cecilton.

Mrs. Orth was a graduate of Mary Washington College.

She moved to Wilmington to begin a professional secretarial and administrative career that spanned seven decades.

Mrs. Orth met Carl H. Orth Sr. in Wilmington. They married in 1949 and moved to a small farm in Kenton in 1952. She balanced work and family for the next 50 years, setting a wonderful example for her husband and children to emulate.

She volunteered at the Salvation Army and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

She loved living life to its fullest potential. She had a quiet sense of humor and a kind disposition that gave pleasure to all around her. She was an enthusiastic gardener, a lover of reading and a wonderful friend to the many animals in her life. She was especially fond of the birds around her home, and the cats and dogs she cared for throughout her life.

Above all, Mrs. Orth enjoyed spending time with her family. She relished every holiday, birthday and anniversary that brought together the many people who were so important to her. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy of personal strength, gentleness and loving dedication to her family, friends and faith.

She is survived by her husband, Carl H. Orth Sr.; three sons, Harry Orth, Ned Orth and Peter Orth; two daughters-in-law, Claire (Pulise) Birney and Janine (Prucino) Orth; four grandchildren, Annie Rose Birney, Laura Emily Orth, Joseph Edgar Orth and Stephen Carl Orth; three sisters, Isabel (Manlove) Thomas, Catherine Jester and Emily Manlove; a brother, William Manlove; a sister-in-law, Mary Manlove; and an aunt, Georgia Jackson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Christ Episcopal Church.

Burial will be at a later date.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Christ Episcopal Church, State and Water streets, Dover DE 19901.

Arrangements by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc., Dover.
