Laura Mae Coleman

ST. LEONARD, Md. - Laura Mae Coleman, of St. Leonard, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at University of Maryland Medical Center. She was 48. Born May 26, 1963, in Delaware, she was raised in Rock Hall, by her grandparents, the late Richard and Etta Masten Murphy. Laura enjoyed kayaking, crabbing, and scouring the Chesapeake Bay shoreline for arrowheads and sharks' teeth. She also had a gift for gardening and painting. Laura graduated from Kent County High School class of 1981 and, in 1985, was married to Steven D. Coleman, who was then serving in the U.S. Navy. The couple lived in Charleston, S.C., and Bridgeville, Del., before moving to Calvert County, where Steve works out of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. In addition to her husband, Laura is survived by a son, Steven Tyler Coleman; a grandson, Colby Tyler Coleman of St. Leonard; two sisters, Anna Walls of Federalsburg, and Marion Shahan of Kenton, Del.; two brothers, John Smith Clendaniel Jr. of Cheswold, Del., and Robert A. Clendaniel of Marydel; and her aunts, Betty Burke of St. Leonard, Nancy McGinnis of Chestertown, and Linda Miller of Dover, Del. She was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Mae Pleasanton.
