DOVER - Kera Ashley Russum died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, after a long and valiant fight with Lupus. Born on Jul. 7, 1985 at Kent General Hospital, to John Wesly Russum, Sr. and Carla Bramble Russum, she was just 32 years old.
Kera was an intelligent, competitive, kind, and loving person that always had a smile on her face and viewed the world from a place of gratitude, regardless of the circumstances. After graduating from Dover High School, Kera received her BS in psychology from Delaware State University and served as captain of the equestrian team. She completed her MBA in Healthcare Administration from Wilmington University and subsequently began her career in healthcare at Dr. Donlick's office. While completing her degrees, she worked at the Little Grocers and a local stable.
Kera was passionate about being an Aunt. She loved and cherished her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She loved to cook for them, take them shopping, and support them at their sporting events. She was also a dedicated mother to her three "fur babies" - Smokey her horse, Oakley her black lab, and Tinkerbell her cat.
Kera is survived by her parents, John and Carla Russum of Dover; brothers, John Wesley Russum, Jr. of Dover, Shawn Thomas Russum, and Kyle Tyler Russum, both of Smyrna; her nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel south, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Interment was in Odd Follows Cemetery, Camden.
The family would like to thank everyone for all of their prayers, kindness and support over the past eight months. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., 2121 K Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20037-1830.
Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
