Brown, 97 Wyoming - A WWII Veteran, Kenneth Vernon Brown, 97, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. Mr. Brown was born to Flossie and Earl Brown, in Sparta, Wisconsin, on August 17, 1918. He attended the Sparta School, graduating in 1936. Kenneth joined the Wisconsin National Guard in 1937 then enlisted in the United States Army-Air Corps in 1941. He proudly served his country for four years, participating in the Battle of El Alamein and flew 45 missions over the areas between North Africa and the Boot of Italy. Upon completing his tour of duty, Kenneth returned stateside, and married Maxine Harris of Wyoming. Settling in Dover in 1951, he established, with his then father-in-law, J. Colby Harris, H & B Package Store and The Wine Cellar; which he operated for nearly 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine; his sisters, Margie Smith and Garnet Plaff; and three brothers, Darrell, Duane, and Earl, Jr. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 28 years, Janet Lafferty Case Brown; two step-sons, James T. (Ty) Case, III & wife Holly Holden Case and Todd Y. Case & wife, Lisa Hiott Case; two step-grandchildren, Leslie Case DiPietro & husband, Tony and James T. Case, IV, & wife, Kris; two step great grandsons, A.J. DiPietro and Nathan A. DiPietro; and a step great granddaughter, Isabella Case. He is also survived by his first wife's sisters, Peggy Harris Taylor, Norma Harris Bennett, and Joan Harris Miller & husband, Jeff, and their families; as well as several nieces & nephews. Mr. Brown had a long life during which he enjoyed family, close friends, neighbors, and business acquaintances. He enjoyed working with wood and built three houses, some cabinetry, and was known for saving anything that could be refurbished. A smile and a Thank You were all the reward he hoped for when doing favors. The last line of a 1987 poem epitomizes his life style…… "Let me live in my house by the side of the road, and be a friend to man." The family would like to offer sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the Staff at Kent General Hospital, and to our devoted friends for their kindness, and attention to all of us. Graveside Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015, in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Contributions may be made in his memory to the First State Animal Center/Kent County S. P.
