Kenneth Clinton Potts Sr., 77 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Kenneth Clinton Potts Sr., passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, after a brief illness. He was 77. Born Jan. 11, 1931, in Sylva, Jackson County, N.C., he moved to Newport News in 1953. Kenneth graduated from Sylva Central High School on June 3, 1949, and then joined the U.S. Navy serving his country during the Korean War aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Missouri. Upon honorable discharge, he served his city as a Newport News Police Officer. After leaving the Police Department, Kenneth became a Civil Service employee working for the U.S. Postal System. At the time of his retirement, he managed the Fort Eustis and Lee Hall Post Offices. He is survived by his four children, Fred Potts and his wife Sharon of March ARB, Calif. and Dover, Del., Carolyn Bernice Potts of Center Cross, Kenneth Clinton Potts Jr. and his wife Debbie of San Diego, Calif., and Gwendolyn Potts Alligood of Chesapeake; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham, Hampton.
