STILL POND, Md. - Katherine "Kitty" Magrogan Besse, of Still Pond, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Golden Rule Assisted Living in Rock Hall. She was 86. Kittty Besse was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Queen Anne's county the daughter of the late Joseph Magrogan and Mary "Malloy" Magrogan. She was a 1940 graduate of Chestertown High School and resided in Kent and Queen Anne's counties all her life. She began working in Chestertown, in 1940 for AS Turner & Sons ad also worked for The Register of Wills Office and Mr. Richard Carville during his career. She worked with Alex Rasin, his father and various other partners of the firm from 1969 until her retirement in 2007 at age 84. In 1958 she married her late husband, John Arcade Besse. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Vansant and her husband, Rick of Coatesville, Pa.; one son, John J. Besse and his wife Mary of Chestertown; one sister, Julia Reardon of Newark, Del.; one brother, John Magrogan of Baltimore; and one grandchild, Alexander John "AJ" Besse of Chestertown. A visitation will be held Friday, August 13, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown. Interment will be held in Still Pond Cemetery in Still Pond, following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the American Heart Association 800 East Main St. Salisbury, MD 21801.
