BRIDGEVILLE - Katherine "Kay" Hammond Lewis, peacefully entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Nov. 9th, 2016 with her daughters by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Charlotte N. Hammond; and her husband, Richard Ira Lewis. Kay was a graduate of Bridgeville High School, received her Bachelors of Science from the University of Delaware and her Masters of Education from Widener University. A lifelong learner and passionate educator, her work included time with the Seaford School District, the University of Delaware, and Woodbridge School District where she ended her career as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Kay was an active member at Union Methodist Church in Bridgeville where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and serving on numerous committees. Kay loved to spend time at the beach, in her flower gardens, baking (especially pies), painting and creating homemade gifts for her family, friends and coworkers. She is survived by her daughters, Marybeth Lewis Conaway (Guy, Drew, Josh) and Margaret "Meg" McDyre (D.J., Trey, Richard); her brother, John "Jack" Hammond (Mary Ann); and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Union United Methodist Church, North Laws Street, Bridgeville, Del. where friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will be private in Bridgeville Cemetery. A reception will follow the services in the Church hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Assn.
