Karen Sanders
Mother. Wife. Companion. Lover. Fighter. Selfless giver. Troublemaker. Queen Bee. Genuine, kind soul.
Karen left our heavenly earth to be reunited with her son, parents, and siblings after a courageous battle with the familiar face of cancer. A word that too many families are painfully aware of, all too well. Karen was preceded in death by her son, Dustin Sanders, who lost his battle a mere five years ago, at the age of thirty. He was by her side to bring her home just in time for celebration of his birthday. She was also preceded in death by her unborn child; her parents, James and Mable Jarvis; her sister, Sandra Weishaupt; her brother, James Jarvis, Jr.; and several fur kids, including Kissy and Trixie.
She is survived by her life companion of nearly thirty years, Jay Benton; her daughter, Stacy (husband Raul) Montanez; grandson, Ryan Montanez; sisters, Tammy (husband Larry) Prince and Cindy (husband Evan) Griffin; ex-husband, James Sanders; along with many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Karen had a fun-loving outlook on life. She was always up for a good time. After an early retirement from PPG Industries, Karen enjoyed exploring her entrepreneurial spirit by breeding AKC Chihuahuas, sewing, crocheting blankets, and giving back to her community. Karen was also involved with June Jam, Ltd. and the Marydel Civic Club for many years. Her selfless love and compassion for others was often displayed by cooking meals for the homeless during Code Purple events, donating to local charitable events, or sharing her special handmade blankets with those whom she adored.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday. Graveside service and burial will take place at Mount Olive Cemetery immediately afterwards, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved son.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marydel Volunteer Fire Company, 110 Firehouse Lane, Marydel, DE 19964 in Karen's memory, to thank them for the decades of compassion they have bestowed upon the family.
