Karen May Murphy
Karen May Murphy was called to her heavenly home on February 3, 2021.
Karen was born February 26, 1952, and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and has resided in Dover, Delaware since 1979.
Karen was a beloved wife and devoted mother as well as surrogate grandmother.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Alice Habicht; her sister, Lois Habicht; her brother, Daniel Habicht; and her son, Ryan Murphy.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Richard Murphy; and her son, Nicholas Murphy.
A graduate of Patterson High School in 1970, Karen trained and was certified as a Medical Assistant. She worked as a Medical assistant until the birth of her son Ryan in 1978, and then took on the job of mother and homemaker. In 1980 God blessed her with another son, Nicholas. She worked from home as an Avon representative for many years.
Karen was active in the ministry of St. John's Lutheran Church as the Fellowship Coordinator, served on the Social Ministry Team, and led a Ladies Bible Study Group. She loved serving and witnessing for her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed event planning and crafting. She especially loved making her own greeting cards.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: St. John's Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus Street, Dover, DE 19901. On the memo line include "In memory of Karen Murphy". Donations will support our Social Concerns Ministry; providing aid to the needy, one of Karen's passions.
With the ongoing Pandemic related to Covid-19, funerals are extremely difficult to plan and attend while maintaining all the required social distancing and safety guidelines. The necessity for safety has forced us to become a more virtual society. To that end we have decided that rather than delay a memorial service for Karen until the pandemic ends we would do a virtual online service in celebration of her life. We have chosen her birthday, February 26, as a fitting day to celebrate her life. The service will begin at 4 p.m. and will be streamed live via You Tube @ sjldover.com It is our hope that this virtual service will allow us to share our grief and celebrate her new life, together virtually, in a timely fashion. Additionally, it will ease the travel burdens and safety concerns of large gatherings that Covid places on all of us.
Letters of condolences may be sent to www.traderfh.com
