LINCOLN - Junior I. "Jim" Gardenhire, 76, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the VA Medical Center, Wilmington. Mr. Gardenhire was born in Siloam Springs, Ark., the son of the late Steven K. and Louie Frances (Johnson) Gardenhire. He joined the United States Army, serving in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, where he was the recipient of two purple hearts. He retired from the Army after 21 years of service. He than worked at United Aero in Burlington, N.J., for 15 years, manufacturing precision airplane parts and then finally at the Burlington Coat Factory in shipping for three years before retiring. He was a member of both the Broadkill V.F.W. and the Milford V.F.W. He loved playing pool on the Milford V.F.W. pool team. Jim enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and was known around the neighborhood as Mr. Fixit, for he could fix anything, especially lawn mowers. He was also known to be a people person, and enjoyed being around people, especially helping out his neighbors and friends. He was also a very devoted family man, and loved spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ann; six children, Betty Ann Smith and her husband James, David Gardenhire and his wife Nancy, Jimmy Don Bolfa and his wife Charlotte, Alton Kent Bolfa and his wife Luna, Kirk Patrick Bolfa and his wife Margaret, and Judy Ann Yahiku and her husband Stanley; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company, 302 Main Street, Ellendale, DE 19941. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
