DOVER - Joyce L. Finney was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018 after she passed away at home with her loving family by her side.
Joyce was born in Vilonia, Ark., on Sept. 4, 1940 to Robert and Martha Finley.
Joyce was a member of Capitol Baptist Church in Dover where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker and treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, who loved her, but she always "loved them more."
She raised her children and grandchildren, in the words of 1 Peter 3:8 of the Bible, to, "Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:" It is a verse that defines her selfless nature.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lester E. Finney; her daughter, Gina Rath and her husband Ellis, of Milford; son, Doug and wife Patty, of Camden; and son, Michael and his wife Marybeth, of Dover. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Howard, of Dover. She is also survived by grandchildren, Stephen Lyons (Gina), San Diego, Cal., Lauren Becke (Howard), Camden, Jonathan, Amanda and Sarah Finney (Doug), Camden and Sean and Erin Finney (Mike), Dover; and great grandchildren, Addison Hall and Zarah Becke (Lauren), Camden, and Chloe Lyons (Stephen), of San Diego, Cal.
The funeral service will take place Friday, Feb. 16 at Capitol Baptist Church at 401 Kesselring Avenue in Dover with visitation and viewing beginning at noon and the service following at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Delaware Hospice at 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE, 19901 or Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Avenue, Dover, DE.
