LEWIS - Joseph William Bane Jr, , passed away May 22, 2016 at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford. Mr. Bane was born June 11, 1925 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., son of Joseph W. Bane Sr and Harriet Bane. He attended public schools in Niagara Falls prior to enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He served as a medical corpsman in the South Pacific during World War II and retired from the Navy in 1962 as a Chief Petty Officer. He retired from Federal Civil Service in 1979 as a Supervisory Housing Inspector in Washington D.C. He was a Mason and Shriner in the Salem and Roanoke, Va. areas. Mr Bane also was a Fleet Reserve 50PLUS member, a Life Member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V., as well as a member of the American Legion. Joseph loved the ocean, traveling and frequenting restaurants on the Delaware shore. He was an avid sports fan. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Ann Burnell Bane in 2007. He is survived by his brother, Paul Bane of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and his sister, Kathryn Newton, of Youngstown, N.Y. Survived by daughter, Susan Bane Trued; son-in-law, Terry Trued of Absecon, N.J.; son, Timothy William Bane; and daughter-in-law, Dianne Marie Bane of Lewes. Also survived by grandchildren, Lyle Trued, Laura and her husband, Lindsay and Kevin Bane; great-grandchildren, Mary Theresa Bane and Monroe Josephine Dianne Banks along with many nieces and nephews. Internment will be at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
