Joseph Wilbur Strong Jr.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Joseph Wilbur "Joe Boy" Strong Jr., born in Chestertown, Md., recently of Camden-Wyoming, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Kent General Hospital. He was 65. He was born on April 10, 1945, the son of the late Joseph W. Sr. and Florence Walls Strong. He graduated Chestertown High School class of 1963 and Chesapeake College later in his life in 1987. He served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Preston during the Vietnam War as a Sonar Technician and was honorably discharged in 1969. He operated the drive-in movie theatre in Church Hill, Md. He worked with his parent operating the Old Wharf Inn Restaurant with his sister, Diana. He owned and operated the Chestertown Seafood business on Cannon Street in Chestertown, Md. Joe was a Radiologist for 30 years. In 1989 he moved to Delaware to work at Kent General Hospital as a Radiologist. He also worked at MDI as a Radiologist and a Cat-scan Technician. He was a member of the Kent and Queen Anne's Rescue Squad and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his three children that loved him dearly, Julie Kennedy and her husband Jeff of Dover, Richard Strong and his wife Deborah of Chestertown, Md., and Susan Emeigh and her husband Gary of Hartly; his sister, Diana Williams of Chestertown, Md.; his six grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Austin, Seth, Madison and Dylan whom he loved very much; and his nieces, Jesse-Lee Nichols of Lynchburg, Va., and Natalie Williams of Chestertown, Md. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown, Md. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Md. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kent and Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD 21620; or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 7579 Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
