DOVER - Joseph T. Patermo, age 74, of Dover, died Aug. 31, 2011, at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. Born Oct. 25, 1936, in Atlantic City, N.J., he was the son of the late Louis and Marion (Alagona) Patermo. He received both Bachelor and Master Degrees in City & Regional Planning from Rutgers University and had retired in 2004 from the US Civil Service, Dept. of Defense where he had served as an Urban Planner. Joe had served eight years in the US Army National Guard and in his quieter moments enjoyed Golf. He had been a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and was truly one of those people who made a difference in the lives of those he touched. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Carmella Gitto; and two brothers, Anthony and Peter. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Rutt Patermo of Dover; two sons, Brien J. Patermo of Los Angeles, Calif., and Eric M. Patermo, Glastonbury, Conn.; three sisters, Marie Mangano of Ventnor, N.J., Rose Giannantonio of Lynwood, N.J., Stella Iorio of Lawrenceville, N.J., and Rita Costanzo of Margate, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Joshua and Maya Patermo of Glastonbury, Conn., and Dominick Patermo of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Holy Cross Church, where friends may call starting at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. with Interment following in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Family suggests donations in his memory to The First Tee World Golf Association via www.thefirsttee.org. Guest Book Signings and Condolences may be made via www.ambruso.com.
