Joseph M. V. Rivard CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. - Joseph Marcel Vincent "Vinny" Rivard formerly of Chesapeake Beach, Md., went home to be with the Lord at 12:25 am, Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2009. Joseph was born Jan. 21, 1925, to Emile and Hermanie Pinot Rivard of Boston, Mass. He was a member of the 29th Division of the Army (Co. M. 175 Infantry) as a mortar assistant participating in the second wave at Normandy Beach during World War II where he was injured requiring an above the knee amputation of his left leg. He was honorably discharged on June 29, 1945. He received a Purple Heart, Expert Infantry Badge and one Campaign Ribbon. Joseph retired with over 24 years of service from the U.S. Army Mapping Service, 6500 Brooks Lane, Washington, D.C., in 1980 where he wan an Audio Visual Services Officer. Joseph was a 3rd Degree Sir Knight and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Calvert Council No. 7870 at Saint Anthony's Church, North Beach, Md. He is survived by his girlfriend of 44 years, Margaret Cornwall; two sons, Joseph C. Rivard and his wife Dee of Harrington, and Richard H. Rivard and his wife Barbara of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Andrea Hunt and her husband Buck, James Conlogue III, Andrew, Amber, and Ricky Rivard and his wife Cristiana; and four great-grandchildren, Tye, Gage, Reina, and Lexi. Viewing will be 3 p.m., Sunday, March 7, Hines/ Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Springs, Md., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Monday, March 8, in Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, Main St., North Beach, Md., with burial to follow at George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Rd., Adelphi, Md.
