DOVER - Joseph L. Seymore, Sr. was born Oct. 17, 1935 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Arthur and Victoria Seymore. He passed peacefully on April 3, 2018 in the privacy of his own home surrounded by his family.
Joseph Seymore, Sr grew up in Chicago and joined the United States Air Force in Dec. 1953 at just 18 years old. His time in the Air Force brought him to Dover in 1956. He was one the first black flight engineers in Dover at the time. While stationed in Dover, he met his beloved wife Eleanor and married in 1957. Together they raised four wonderful children. Joseph retired from the military in 1979 at the rank of Master Sergeant.
Pop, as he was referred to by many, spent his retirement days working on cars and lawnmowers. It was a passion of his and everyone in the neighborhood certainly benefited from his skills. He enjoyed helping anyone who came by his garage and always offered his assistance. When he wasn't working on a project, he loved to fish, spend time with family and especially gather with his friends at the Dover Elks Lodge 1125 in Dover where he was a member for many years.
Joseph was proceeded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Thomas; his late wife, Eleanor; and daughters, Jonese and Victoria.
Left to mourn his death is his brother, John and wife Helen Seymore of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Lori Roberson of Dover; and son, Joseph Jr. and wife Terri Seymore of Madeira Beach, Fla. Joseph has many extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly as well, to include grandkids, Tanya, Micheal, Joseph lll, Eleanor, William and Jameere; great grandkids, Adasha, Miara, Maleek, Micheal, Amylah, and Jameere; nieces, Wysetta, Shirley, Dannette and Zambia; nephews, Arthur and Gregory; and special friends. Pierce, Royal and Gladys.
The family would like to especially thank Delaware Hospice for helping their father spend his last weeks at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends.
