SMYRNA - Joseph E. Mullen, 77, of Smyrna, died at home on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011. Born and raised in Chester, Pa., Joe lived in Eddystone, Pa., before moving to Smyrna, 39 years ago. He was the son of the late Charles A. Mullen and Amelia Harper Mullen. Brother of the late Charles Mullen, Bertha Baynes, and Marie Moore. Mr. Mullen is survived by his loving wife, Carole G. Mullen; brothers, William and wife Dolores of Winter Park, Fla., and James Mullen and wife Pat of Lady Lake, Fla.; sons, Mark Mullen of Irving, Texas, and David Mullen and wife Donna of Townsend; grandchildren, Laura Mullen, Kristen Mullen of Denton, Texas, Bryan Mullen of Dallas, Texas, Jeffrey Mullen and Ashley Mullen of Dover; step-grandchildren, Sara Jordan and Jessica Kline; great-granddaughter, Jade Thorpe of Athens, Texas; and step-great-grandson, Cameron Jordan. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Chapel of Faries Funeral Home, 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Salvation Army, 400 N. Orange St. Wilmington, DE 19801. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
