HOUSTON - Joseph C. George, of Houston, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009. He was 79. Born in Houston, he was the son of the late Joseph Cornelius and Elva Jane George. Mr. George retired from Playtex as a millwright after 43 years of employment. He started working for Playtex at the young age of 16. In his spare time, he was an avid gardener who shared all of his vegetables with neighbors, family, and friends. He loved to go salt water fishing in the Delaware Bay, and loved to hunt whatever was in season. Mr. George especially enjoyed going to yard sales. The phrase, "No early birds," was meant for Joe because he would be there awfully early. Joe liked to watch NASCAR, his favorite driver was Kasey Kane. Joe will be remembered for his joke telling and his countless stories that he liked to tell. He will be missed by his family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Cornelius George; and sister, Melva Turner. He is survived by his sons, Wayne George of Texas, Greg George of Magnolia, and Terry George and his wife Jackie of Felton; daughters, Karen Kitchen of Dover, and Jan Johnson and her husband Joseph of Florida; grandchildren, Mariah Gebhart, Jody George, and Joey George; great-grandchildren, Payton and Olivia Gebhart; and his faithful dog, Rascal. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in the Houston United Methodist Church, Houston, where a visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
