MILFORD - Joseph A. Fluet passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, surrounded by his family and caregivers.
Born in Fitchburg, Mass. on July 19, 1931, Joe was the son of the late Joseph O. and Grace Fluet. He graduated from Great Neck High School, N.Y. and, in Oct. of 1955, he married his beloved wife and best friend, Ruth M. Fluet, who preceded him in death in 2015. Married for almost 65 years, they started their journey together on the west coast at Williams AFB in Chandler, Ariz., where their two daughters were born.
Joe was a devoted husband, warm-hearted family man, and dog/cat lover who served his country honorably for 22 years in the Air Force. He retired from his second career in 1992 from the State of Delaware, Department of Technology and Information. Not only was Joe an intelligent, good-humored man who earned his degree in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska, Joe was quite the athlete. He won many high school and Air Force awards in track and field, played soccer, semi-pro baseball for the Chicago Bears, and was an avid weekend golfer for his entire adult life. In retirement, he enjoyed doing most of the cooking, meeting his buddies at the coffee shop early in the mornings, spending time at the beach, and doing the never-ending yardwork.
Joe is survived by his brother, Charles Fluet of Woodbridge, Va.; his two daughters, Lisa Lewis of Camden, and Cheryl, married to Don Griffith, of North East, Md.; one granddaughter, Carley, married to John Rose, of Townsend; and his two great grand pups, France' and Rodney, who brought him much joy on their visits.
A private memorial service was held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. Please consider donations to one of Joseph's favorite organizations: Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germany Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804, www.faithfulfriends.us or www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
