CLAYTON - John Westley Simmons III of Clayton left us suddenly Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Clayton. He was 38.

Born Sept. 15, 1968, he was the son of John W. Jr. and Shirley (Gregg) Simmons of Hartly.

John graduated from Smyrna High School in 1986.

He was an international boilermaker for the past 18 years. Most recently he went to work for Local 13 in Bristol, Pa.

John enjoyed reading and rock climbing. He was a history buff who especially enjoyed hiking and exploring local battlefields. Riding bicycles and playing video games with his family were two of his favorite passions. He loved riding his new motorcycle with his wife.

He loved his family, his wife and especially his children; he was a devoted and dedicated father. They were his greatest joys in life. John was a true friend to those around him. He would help anyone.

John was preceded in death by his baby sister, Shirley "Missy" Simmons on Aug. 28, 1993.

In addition to his parents, John is survived by his wife, Tonia Ann Simmons, a daughter, Arianna Roberta Simmons, and a son, Benjamin Edward Simmons, all of Clayton; his baby sister, Brandi Mae Simmons of Hartly; his only brother, Aaron Daniel "Danny" Simmons Sr. and his wife Elizabeth of Marydel, Md.; three nieces and nephews of Marydel; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends who will all miss him forever.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9. Interment will be in Townsend Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to his children, Arianna and Benjamin Simmons, c/o Wilmington Trust Bank, 436 W. Glenwood Ave., Smyrna, DE 19977.
