DOVER - Ray Slaughter passed from this life on May 25, 2017. Having served in Korea, Ray was a life-long member of both VFW Post 8801 and American Legion Post 14. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, John Reed Slaughter and Elizabeth (Watson) Slaughter; as well as his brothers, Earl, George, and Frank; and his sister, Fanny. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lena (Irons) Slaughter, on whose 80th birthday he passed. He is also survived by his sons, Robin and Barry of Dover and Jon of Fairhill, MD; his daughters, Sherry Jacobs (Don) of Wilmington, Penny Wade (Tim) of Magnolia, and BJ Pradelli (Roger) of Biloxi, Miss., 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Ray considered his family his greatest achievement in life, which brought him much joy and pride. He always took an interest in the things in which his children and grandchildren were involved. He loved being a band parent and helping the Caesar Rodney Marching Band. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the band in Ray's name. Donations may be sent in care of DuWane Sandlin, 239 Old North Road, Camden, DE 19934. A viewing is scheduled at Trader's Funeral Home in Dover on Wednesday, May 31, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Services will be Thursday, Jun. 1, at Trader's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Lakeside Cemetery on State Street in Dover, overlooking Silver Lake. After burial, there will be a celebration of life at Ray & Lena's home. Letters of condolences may be sent to traderfh@aol.com
