John Patrick 'Chief' Storan, 44

WYOMING - John "Chief" Storan, Musician, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at home after a valiant battle with Huntington's Disease. He was 44. He was born March 1, 1964 in New London, Conn. John lived in Long Island, N.Y. for 29 years, before moving to Delaware two years ago with his mother and sister. Chief began playing the drums at the age of 7. He continued with his passion of music and eventually joined with three other talented musicians to form the band "Reckless Abandon". He was the drummer for "Reckless" for over 15 years; playing in various clubs in the Tri-State Area and doing studio work for other bands. In later years, he became a self-taught guitarist in his spare time. He loved music, nature, animals, the family pets, family and friends; and enjoyed nature walks, hiking, and hunting. Chief was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back, if he thought you needed it. In John's mind, there were no strangers, only friends he had not yet met. John was preceded in death by his father, John F. Storan, who passed away in August, 1992 after his own battle with Huntington's Disease. Surviving are his beloved mother, Gerry Storan; his adoring little sister, Donna Storan, 43, both of Wyoming; close friend, Gerry's significant other, William Burris; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, brother band members, brokenhearted models and a countless number of lifelong friends. A "Celebration of Life" will be from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at the family residence in Wyoming. In the spring, Chief's ashes will be scattered from the peak of Bear Mountain, N.Y.; his favorite hiking place and where he will be part of nature for all eternity. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory thru the Huntington's Disease web site: hdsa.org. or to the ASPCA Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com. or to Donna's email via cherrywoodis4u@yahoo.com.
