John Marshall 'Jack' Nashold, 84

GREENSBORO, Md. - John Marshall "Jack" Nashold of Greensboro died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in Caroline Home for Hospice, Denton. He was 84.

Mr. Nashold was born Dec. 6, 1922, in Greensboro, son of the late G. Harrison and Annie M. (Hooper) Nashold.

He attended Greensboro High School.

Mr. Nashold joined the U.S. Navy before his senior year. He was a sonarman second class, serving on the USS Hamilton in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres.

He returned from the war to Greensboro in 1945. He then married and moved to Riverdale, N.J. There, he worked as an operations supervisor for Lederle Laboratories for 35 years, retiring in 1980. After retiring, he moved back to Greensboro,

He enjoyed reading and writing poetry, winning several awards for his writings. He was a frequent contributor to the editorial page of the Star Democrat of Easton, the Times Record of Caroline County and the Delaware State News, Dover, Del.

Mr. Nashold was a member of American Legion Post 29, Denton, and the Caroline Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7937.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; and five sisters.

He is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, John T. and Demi Nashold of Naperville, Ill.; a daughter and a son-in-law, Kathleen and John Herrera of Round Rock, Texas; two brothers, Gale Nashold of Greensboro and Barney Nashold of San Diego; a sister, Cynthia Tibbitt of Denton; two grandchildren, John F. Herrera and Christina Herrera; and a dear friend, Margaret Blair of Easton.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
