John M. "Jack" Tweedy, 82
HOCKESSIN - John M. "Jack" Tweedy of Hockessin passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007, in his home. He was 82.
Mr. Tweedy was born in Atlanta, son of the late Lula Tucker and Charles A. Tweedy Sr.
He was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, Camden, and had lived in Petersburg at that time.
Mr. Tweedy was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Graffias.
He was a self-employed builder/general contractor in the Wilmington area.
Mr. Tweedy enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known as being a very fair and honest man, and never had a harsh word to say about anyone.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois W. Tweedy; a son, Sean V. Tweedy of Newark; a daughter and a son-in-law, Tanya L. and Jeff Derby of Wilmington; a brother, Charles Tweedy Jr. of Wilmington; three sisters, Mary Baker of Powhatan Beach, Md., Virginia Jarrell of Harrington and Helen Jarrell of Woodside; five grandchildren, Nicole Tweedy, Vincent Tweedy, Hanna Derby, Amber Tweedy and Emily Derby; and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road, Wilmington.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel, followed by a committal service in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer"s Association Delaware Chapter, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
