GEORGETOWN - John M. Hitchens, Jr. passed away at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
John worked many years for Delaware Highway Transportation in Ellendale.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John M. Hitchens, Sr. and Margaret West Hitchens; his twin who died at birth; his brothers, Harvey, Hoyt, and Donnie; his sisters, Mildred Hudson, Ruth Littleton, Kathryn Meredith, and Marie Ellingsworth.
He is survived by his wife Bernice Fowler Hitchens. They were together for 60 years. He is also survived by five daughters, Shirley Hitchens, Becky Bunting (Stanley), Peggy Coulbourne (Jim), Becky Perry (Bob), and Debra Beasley and her friend Mike Roach; eight grandchildren, Kelly Nichols (Chris), Chris Bunting (Robin), Jennifer Santini (Mike), Jessica Hazzard (Allen), Kim Rogers (Bobby), Laci Christ (Brian), Lance Beasley, and Laurin Beasley and her fiancé David; also nine great-grandchildren Tyler, Madison, and Logan Nichols, Marina, Lucas, and Sophia Santini, Abby Hazzard, Nate Rogers, Hadley Christ and Ella Bunting.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Calvary Baptist Church, 22860 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
