John J. Hastings, 59

LAUREL - John J. Hastings of Laurel passed away on March 30, 2007, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 59.

He was born in Laurel, the son of the late James and Virginia (Collins) Hastings.

Johnny was a farmer, operating his farm on Hastings Drive in Laurel. He was vice president of Mar-Del Watermelon Association, member of Mt. Pleasant Church, Delaware Farm Bureau, Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit director, chairman of auditing commission, president of Laurel Grain, member of Delaware Vegetable Growers and director of the Laurel Auction Market.

He was also a graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in agriculture.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hastings; his son, Travis Hastings and his wife, Kim of Laurel; daughter, Tracy Adams and her husband, Ken of Millsboro; brother, George K. Hastings and his wife, Rose Ann of Laurel; sister, Jan Conaway and her husband, Norman of Salisbury, Md. and Phyllis Wimbrow and her husband, Harry of Whaleysville, Md.; grandson, Hayden Hastings of Laurel; a sister-in-law, Harriett Joyce of Bethel; an uncle, Paul Collins of Delmar, Md.; and three nieces.

A funeral service will be held at the Laurel Fire Department on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at 2 p.m. where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Internment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.

Contributions can be made in his name to the John J. Hastings Sussex County Agriculture Scholarship Fund 16483 County Seat Highway Laurel, DE 19956.
