John Henry 'Buster' Carter Sr.
CENTREVILLE, Md. - John Henry "Buster" Carter Sr., died on Friday, May 30, 2008, at his home in Centreville after a long illness.
He was born on May 20, 1929, in Centreville the son of the late Lillie and William Carter of Centreville.
Buster was a graduate of Kennard High School in Centreville where he excelled as an artist.
After high school Buster served in the U.S. Army leaving with an honorable discharge.
He served overseas in Korea during the Korean War.
Later he joined the American Legion and served as the Commander of Clarence E. Wilson American Legion Post 21.
Buster was a member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church for many years.
He was a charter member of the Charles Wesley Methodist Men's Choir, which is now the New Life Men's Choir.
Buster worked for the Wilson Feed Co. for many years.
He also bartended for many years, once in the presence of President Gerald Ford.
Buster enjoyed listening to jazz with his late friend Kenneth Kennedy and eating Maryland steam crabs with his family and friends.
Buster was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Roberts Carter; and a stepson, Leslie Hayward Deshields.
Those who share in his passing are his sisters, Lorraine Griffin of Centreville, and Blanche Clash of Cambridge; a brother, Clinton (Sonny) Carter of Chester, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Smith of Centreville; his children, John Jr. (Juanita) of Church Hill, Deborah (Stanley) Turner of Centreville, and Kimberly (Reginald) Demby of Centreville; a stepson, William (Ricky) Deshields; 12 grandchildren, William (Jock) Deshields II, Jonathan Deshields, John Carter III, (Jay), Devin Carter, Darien Carter, Stanley Turner, II, Takiyah Turner, Kashaya Oxendine, Amber Demby, Jasmine Demby and Reginald Demby Jr. (Ricky); five great-grandchildren, Destiny, Cassidy, Autumn, Cordell (CJ), and James; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends also mourn Buster.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in New Life United Methodist Church, Centreville.
Burial will be in Veteran Ceetery, Beulah.
