John F. 'Shag' Hobbs, 87

MAGNOLIA - John F. "Shag" Hobbs, of Magnolia, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009, at his home with his loving family and friends. He was 87. He was born on Sept. 28, 1921, in Petersburg, to the late Herbert and Ethel May Kemp Hobbs. He was a member of Magnolia Vol. Fire Company for over 20 years. John served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in World War II. He worked at Bolan Motors and as a carpenter building houses for several years, later he worked as a waterman for the Town of Magnolia. He enjoyed gardening and going fishing. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jane Hobbs of Magnolia; daughter, Mary Jane Hobbs and her fiance John Wootten of Magnolia; granddaughter, Michael Elaine Hobbs and her fiance Clint Whaley of Bridgeville; sister, Charlotte June Butler of Dover; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Remembrance services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Burial will be at the Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the Trader Funeral Home, Dover. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Delaware Hospice of Kent County, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808; and/or Magnolia Vol. Fire Company, P.O.
