Prior to coming to Delaware, he served in the Marines, obtaining the rank of lance corporal and earning a Good Conduct Medal.
For many years, Mr. Meister worked in carpentry and was skilled in drywall and metal-stud work.
He always had a smile on his face, and you could hear his big, loud laugh from across the other side of any room.
Mr. Meister was a beloved father, and an active member of the Elks Club and several other social organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Meister.
He is survived by three sons, Michael Meister of Springfield, S.C., John W. A funeral service will be 11:45 a.m. Tuesday in Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue in Ocean View, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association - Kent County, Memorial Fulfillment Center, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
