SMRYNA - John Edward Lovegrove, III passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 at his home. He was born May 21, 1928 in Dover, the son of the late John E. Lovegrove, Jr. and Gertrude Jacobs Lovegrove. Mr. Lovegrove retired with honor from the U.S. Army. After retiring from the military he owned his own business, Lovegrove and Sons Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. He also worked for the State of Delaware and retired from them as well. Mr. Lovegrove also owned and operated R and J Liquors, which is now known as Reba's Liquors in Smyrna. John loved to go fishing and hunting with his friends and enjoyed painting and making custom walking canes. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; eight children, Michael E. "Lovie" Lovegrove, John Edward "Eddie" Lovegrove, IV, Russell Lovegrove, Emily J. Robinson, Patricia Ann "Patty" Scranton, Charles D. Lovegrove, Brenda G. Murphy and Susan Marie Wright; 13 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; his sister, Betty; and two step-children, Lisa and Tiffany. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 at 5 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 6 pm. Burial will be private.
