SMYRNA - John D. Grove, aka, Jack passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.
Jack was born on Dec. 7, 1953 in Bridgeton, N.J., the son of the late Robert and Anna (Kenney) Grove.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Grove, III; and his sister, Kathy Douglas.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Grove; his son, Jared Grove of Philadelphia, Pa.; his stepdaughter, Candace Shetzler-Gunter and her husband Stuart of Lewes; his grandson, Chance Gunter; his sister, Barbara "Bonnie" Taylor of Millville, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack graduated from Middletown High School and DelTech Stanton Campus and went on to enjoy a long career as a Commercial Waterman for 46 years.
He was an avid hunter and true outdoorsman who made his livelihood from the Delaware Bay.
Jack was a loyal friend and will be dearly missed, especially by his close friends. He was mentor to many people in the pursuits he excelled at: hunting, fishing, crabbing and trapping. Jack cultivated and was known for his loyal friendships. He believed in mentoring those who shared his interests.
A viewing will be offered on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 6 p.m. Burial will be private.
