MILFORD - John C. Vaughn, Sr., age 85, of Milford, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, in his home. John was born in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Walter and Gertrude (Welch) Vaughn. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers. John had worked for many years in food service and as a short order cook. He had been manager of the Crab Shack in Dover and Delmar QK in Wyoming, retiring in 1975. He enjoyed working in his yard and woodworking. He was a member of Milford First Baptist Church, and a life member of VFW Post 9968 and D.A.V., both in Dover. John served in the Navy aboard the USS Rocky Mount, honorably discharged after serving in the South Pacific, as Boatswain 2nd Class. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Faye (Smith) Vaughn; two children, John C. Jr., (Joan) Vaughn, of Tenn. and Rebecca Marie (Wayne) Barlow, of Miss.; two sisters, Marie Ward and Jean Vaughn, both of Pa.; four step children, James (Janet) Vaughn, Bridgeville, Harry Vaughn, of Milford, Henry Vaughn, of Dover, Donna Vaughn, also of Milford; a grandson who lived with him, Joshua Vaughn; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren; a son-at-heart, Peter (Elizabeth) Otto and children David and Ethan, of Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be 12:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, with visitation after 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow, at 2 p.m., at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
