John C. Oakley, 61

GEORGETOWN - John C. Oakley of Georgetown, formerly of Carmel, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, N.J. He was 61.

Mr. Oakley was born in Yonkers, N.Y., son of the late Harold and Martha (Carson) Oakley.

He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Oakley was a lineman for Con Edison, Rye, N.Y., for 35 years, retiring in 2001.

He loved hunting, fishing, crabbing and boating.

Mr. Oakley attended St. Michael's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Ann (Gaeta) Oakley; three sons, John C. Oakley Jr. of Carmel, Scott E. Oakley of Lancaster, Pa., and James R. Oakley of Carmel; two grandchildren, Emma H. Davis and Andrew J. Oakley; a mother-in-law and a father-in-law, Rose and Samuel A. Gaeta of Georgetown; two sisters, Jeannette Kotash of New York and Sally Ann Beja of Tennessee; two brothers, Harold Oakley of Washington and Charles McKay of Connecticut; two brothers-in-law, Samuel A. Gaeta Jr. of New York and Gerard A. Gaeta of New Jersey; an aunt, Ruth Carpenter of New York; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 202 Edwards St., Georgetown.

Burial will be in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Easter Seals, 22317 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, DE 19947.
