John Bernard Holden, 65

SMYRNA - John Bernard Holden, of the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 65.

He was born on May 17, 1942, in Manhattan, N.Y., son of the late William V. and Mary (McClory) Holden.

John worked in appliance repair and sales. He also was a truck driver and had his own landscaping business.

He enjoyed his family, had a love for animals and liked country music, especially Johnny Cash and Faith Hill, and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Holden; a sister, Mary Holden; and a son, Christopher Holden.

John is survived by three sons, Jason Holden, Michael Holden and Johnathan Long; a daughter, Kellie Long, all of Harrington; a special niece, Annette, to whose special needs he was very sensitive; six brothers and sisters, William Holden, Stephen Holden, Gerard Holden, Christopher Holden, Patricia Meadowcroft and Regina Collins; his grandchildren, Joshua Long and Jalyn Holden; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kent County S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
