GEORGETOWN - John Albert Elliott, age 87, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family and friends, at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Berlin, Md. He was born in Georgetown, on December 4, 1924, son of the late John Wingate Elliott and Alberta (Rogers) Elliott. John was a 1944 graduate of Georgetown High School. He was a caring family man, hard-working and a good honest man. John had many friends. He retired from John L. Briggs Company, as a foreman, after 30 years. He built and made additions to many schools, churches and hospitals in both Delaware and Maryland. He was a member of Franklin Lodge #12 AF & AM and Union Lodge #3 in Georgetown. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, June Cooper Elliott, in 1983; brother-in-law, Charles L. Graves, in 1995; sister-in-law; Eleanor Rust Elliott, in 2002; and nephew, Henry G. Graves, II, in 2012. He is survived by a brother, Preston W. Elliott, a resident of Delaware Veterans Home in Milford; two sisters, Gladys Elliott Graves, and Jean Elliott Wilkins and husband Charles "Cap", all of Georgetown; nephews, Charles L. "Chuck" Graves, II and wife Lisa, John W. Elliott and wife Dawn, David Elliott and wife Leslie; nieces, Linda Graves Braswell and husband Bill, Christine Elliott Sergovic and husband John; grand-nephews, Robert Tunnell, III and wife Mindy, Charles L. "Chip" Graves and wife Hillary, and Carl Henry Graves; niece-in-law, Maida Graves; grand-nieces, Sarah Tunnell, Tonya Braswell Steward, Marga Graves and Meghan Elliott; great-grand-nephews, Nicholas Steward and Jack Tunnell; great-grand-nieces, Madeleine Steward and Allie Graves; many cousins and friends. He is also survived by a very special friend, Alice Headley, of Georgetown. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Del. with visitation after 1 p.m. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Georgetown, a reception will follow at Nutter Marvel Museum in Georgetown. The family wishes to sincerely thank Berlin Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and care.
