Dover - Joan Y. Kirksey passed away peacefully on Sun., May 3 2015 at her daughter's home in Smyrna. Joan was born on July 14, 1935 in Flushing, Ohio to the late Hugh and Mary Morris. Joan was known to all as a beautiful, kind and generous woman; most of her married life was spent traveling as an Air Force wife and raising her seven children, all while enjoying her career as a Nursing Assistant for over 30 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Morris; and also by her husband, Chester Kirksey. Joan is survived by one brother, James Morris of Florence, KY; two sisters; Emma Christian of Newark, N.J. and Leona Robertson of Wheeling, W.V.; seven children, Cynthia Eldred of Dover, Michael Kirksey of Silver Spring, Md., Jeff Kirksey (Rachel) of Dover, Larry Kirksey of Dover, Jeanette Brieske (Matt) of Santa Maria, Calif., Yvonne Kirksey (Don) of Smyrna, and Chet Kirksey of Dover; three grandchildren, Kevin Maki of Dover, and Renee and Michael Brieske, of Santa Maria, Calif.; as well as her sister in law; Lillie Rhoades of Indianapolis. Ind. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association or Delaware Hospice.
