FRANKFORD - Joan L. Ward of Frankford, formerly of Brandywine, Md., passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at her home. She was 65.
She was born in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late, Morris and Velva (Thompson) Riley.
Joan worked at the Police Academy of Forrestville, Md. as secretary to the captain, retiring after 10 years of service.
Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She enjoyed bingo, music, taking cruises, playing games and corresponding with her friends.
Joan also loved seafood, especially crabs.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Douglas J. Ward Sr.; children, Douglas J. Ward Jr. and his fiance Susan Karson of Berlin, Md., Cathy I. Johnson and her husband Curtis of Brandywine, Wendy M. Geist and her husband Bill of Bear; two sisters, Gail Sines of Frankford, and Debbie Riley of Monks Corner, S.C.; two grandchildren, Curtis Johnson Jr. and Randy Johnson; she is also survived by three grand pets, Sasha, Charlotte, and Hudini.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday in the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services on West Avenue in Ocean View, where friends may call after 6:30 p.m.
Interment will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to, Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
