GEORGETOWN - Joan G. West, of Georgetown, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at home. She was 72. Joan was born in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Adolphus A. and Lillian E. (Lankford) Gordy. Joan was a greeter for Wal-Mart in Georgetown; prior to working at Wal-Mart she was a CNA for several years. She was a member of Zoar U.M. Church in Georgetown, the Red Hat Society and Georgetown Cheer Center. She loved making Christmas Decorations, doing crafts and having a flower garden. She loved animals especially her dog, Rusty Lee. She is survived by her husband, Donald L. West of Georgetown; two children, Donald L. West, Jr. and wife Karen of Idaho and Debbie W. Melson and her husband John of Frankford; her sister, Helen Scott and her husband Roland Donald of Georgetown; her aunt, Jean O'Neill of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Tonya O'Leary, Katrina Clifford, and Michael Melson and three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2011, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown. The family would like to thank her special neighbors who cared for her, Holly, Joey, David and Ashley.
