HARRINGTON - Jewel Arlene Hasbrouck Hoffman, formerly of Dover, died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at home. She was born in Corry, Pa., daughter of the late Harold H. and Gertrude E. (Jewell) Hasbrouck. She graduated from Corry High School in 1939. In 1958, Jewel moved to Harrington with her husband H. Arthur Hoffman. She was a Tupperware manager for 25 years before retiring. Jewel loved music, while in high school she was the lead singer in several operas, and at the age of 17, sang with her brother's band. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington where she sang in the church choir for many years; was a member of the Merrymakers Home Demonstration Club, the Cowgills Home Demonstration Club and the Brunswick Doverama bowling team. She also enjoyed traveling and enjoyed being with people. But what was most important to Jewel was the quality time she always spent with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Arthur Hoffman in 2003. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Claude Seward of Blandon, Pa., Ann Louise and Claude Bowden of Cleveland, Tenn.; and Charlyne and Ronnie Hughes of Harrington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Marlyn Hoffman of Toms Brook, Va., and Rick and Kathy Hoffman of Rehoboth Beach; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952.
