Jesse E. Thornton, 75

WILMINGTON - Jesse E. Thornton of Wilmington passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in his home. He was 75.

Mr. Thornton was born Jan. 4, 1932, son of the late Daniel and Mary Thornton.

He attended Howard High School, Wilmington.

Mr. Thornton served his country in the Korean War.

He worked at Chrysler for 27 years.

Mr. Thronton loved his family and friends dearly and was well known by many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Daniel and Donald; and sisters, Marion, Mary, Betty and Bertha.

He is survived by his wife and companion, Thelma E. Stewart; two sisters, Helen Walker of Delaware and Elizabeth Price of California; a brother, John of Delaware; his nephews, Marvin of Georgia and Philip of Delaware; a daughter and a son-in-law, Renee and Curtis Wallace; his sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Victoria Clark of Delaware, Jesse E. Thornton Jr. of Ohio, Reginald and Troylene Thornton of Maryland and Timothy Thornton of Delaware; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews; and his old friends and colleagues of Belvedere.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Centennial United Methodist Church, 44 E. Mount Vernon St., Smyrna, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
