MIDDLETOWN - Jean "Nana" Millar Laws of Middletown died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 79.
Mrs. Laws was born Feb. 1, 1927, daughter of the late Minnie Belle Waltham and Leslie Millar.
She attended the University of Delaware and retired from the Middletown school system as a substitute teacher and school librarian.
Mrs. Laws also worked at the Children"s Library in Odessa. Many benefited from her love of books and stories that she insisted on sharing.
She loved to read, tell stories, crafts, quilts, sewing, lilacs, antiques and the never ending house projects in her old, wonderful home. She loved her church, Grace Presbyterian Church and Rev. "Bob," as well as her extended family within her church.
Mrs. Laws" kitchen was an informal and wonderful gathering place for family and friends. It was not unusual to see many coffee cups on the table with an open Bible to dispense not only her counseling of the situation but she would throw in God"s take on any given situation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice; a son, Donny; a grandson, Zach; a brother, Richard; and a sister, Ruth.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles "Chum" Laws; her children and their spouses, Ricky and Marie Laws, Billy, Ellie, Ronny, Kathy and Jenny and Jeff Ostberg; her grandchildren, Amy Miller, Ashley Laws, Abigail Laws, Brandon Laws, Keri Laws, Lauren Laws, Dawn Wade, Charles Wade, Andy Olney, Danny Ostberg, Amanda Ostberg and Drew Laws; and great-grandchildren, Haley Miller, Emma Rhoades and Calvin Rhoades; her brothers, Donald, Leonard, Bobby and John; her sisters, Helena, Janet and Gail.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Grace Presbyterian Church, 13 Pennington St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery, Middletown.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, Second and High Street, Odessa, DE 19730.
Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
